Daytona 500

Nascar fan’s call it the great race or the Nascar Superbowl. The Daytona 500 is the annual 500-mile-long (805 km) battle between the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series contenders. As the name suggest it is run  on the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.  The 2014 edition was nothing short of spectacular. However, the euphoric mood of the race start was soon dampened when after only 38 laps the race was halted due to some heavy rain showers. The organisers did everything they could to dry the track, but all in all it still took over 6 hours before the race could continue.

When the race was finally green flagged once more #18 Kyle Bush leads the pack to the line. In lap 145 it was time for a big wreck with 9 cars involved. With 7 laps to go another wreck that was caused by Austin Dillon, took out both his team mates. With 2 laps to go Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the pack when in the final lap once more some cars get in trouble causing a major wreck session. Dale Jr. takes the checkered flag and wins his second Daytona 500. A very emotional Dale Jr. tributes the race to his father Dale Earnhardt who lost his life in the Daytona 500 back in 2001.
